Scan Tool Data
Scan tool data are standard values estimated on the basis of values obtained from normally operating vehicles by using scan tool, use data as reference values. See Fig 1 - Fig 3 . Even when vehicle is in good condition, there may be cases where the checked value does not fall within each specified data range. Judging a component as bad, should not be made by checking with this data alone. Conditions that can be checked by the scan tool are those detected by ECM, along with ECM inputs and output commands. There may be cases where engine or actuator is not operating as indicated by scan tool. With OBD-11 generic scan tool, only star marked data can be read. Be sure to use timing light to check ignition timing. When checking scan tool data with engine running at idle or racing, be sure to shift M/T gear to Neutral position and A/T gear to Park position. Engage parking brake fully. If nothing or "no load" is indicated, turn OFF A/C, all electric loads, P/S and all other necessary switches before testing.
