Ignition System Check

IGNITION SYSTEM CHART

Step Action YES NO
Was "Engine and Emission Control System Check" performed?  Go to Step 2. Go to ENGINE AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM CHECK .
Ignition spark test
  1. Check all spark plugs for condition and type referring to SPARK PLUG INSPECTION .
  2. If OK, perform ignition spark test referring to IGNITION SPARK TEST .

Is spark emitted from all spark plugs? 
Go to Step 8. Go to Step 3.
DTC check
  1. Perform DTC Check referring to .

Is DTC stored in ECM (PCM)? 
Go to applicable "DTC diag. flow". Go to Step 4.
Electrical connection check
  1. Check for proper connection to each ignition coil assembly at each terminal and at spark plug.

Are they connected securely? 
Go to Step 5. Connect securely.
Ignition coil assembly power supply, ground and trigger signal circuits check
  1. Check these circuits for open and short.

Are circuits in good condition? 
Go to Step 6. Repair or replace.
Ignition coil assembly check
  1. Substitute a known-good ignition coil assembly and repeat Step 2.

Is spark emitted from spark plug(s)? 
Malfunction of ignition coil assembly. Go to Step 7.
CMP sensor and its circuits check
  1. Check CMP sensor power and ground circuits for open and short, and CMP sensor for signal Voltage referring to Step 4 to Step 7 of DTC P0340: CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CIRCUIT .

Are check results satisfactory? 
Substitute a known-good ECM (PCM) and repeat Step 2. CMP sensor malfunction or wire harness open or short. If the check result is OK, substitute a known-good ECM.
Ignition timing check
  1. Check initial ignition timing and ignition timing advance referring to IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT .

Is check result satisfactory? 
System is in good condition. Adjust ignition timing or check ECM input signals related to this system.
