Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Removal and Installation

Removal

1) Remove air cleaner assembly. Air Cleaner Assembly Removal and Installation
2) Disconnect negative cable at battery.
3) Drain coolant. Draining

WARNING:
If the radiator cap is removed when the engine and radiator are still hot, extremely hot fluid and steam may spew out under pressure. This can cause severe burns.

Wait until the engine coolant temperature has lowered before removing the radiator cap.

4) Disconnect connector from ECT sensor (1).





5) Remove ECT sensor from water outlet cap.

Installation

Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Inspection

Reverse removal procedure noting the following.

- Clean mating surfaces of ECT sensor and water outlet cap.
- Check O-ring for damage and replace, if necessary.
- Tighten ECT sensor (1) to specified torque.

Tightening torque
ECT sensor (a): 12.5 Nm (1.25 kgf-m, 9.0 lbf-ft)





- Connect connector to ECT sensor securely.
- Refill coolant. Refilling
