Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Removal and Installation: Removal

  1. Remove air cleaner assembly. See AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
  2. Disconnect negative cable at battery.
  3. Drain coolant. See COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING .
    WARNING: If the radiator cap is removed when the engine and radiator are still hot, extremely hot fluid and steam may spew out under pressure. This can cause severe burns.
    Wait until the engine coolant temperature has lowered before removing the radiator cap.
  4. Disconnect connector from ECT sensor (1).

  5. Remove ECT sensor from water outlet cap.
