Module - Steering Column Control - Remove And Replace: Install

  1. Make sure that the clockspring tape indicator is visible in the inspection window in the upper left of the steering column control module.
  2. Carefully install the steering column control module onto the steering column, and then install the bolt that attaches the steering column control module to the steering column.

    9 N.m (6.6 ft-lbs) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • 5 mm hex ball end bit
    • 1/4 in std ratchet
    • 1/4 in torque wrench (installation only)
    • 2 in extension

  3. Install an orange plastic retaining clip (1028053-00-A) into the electrical harness connector for the steering column control module.
  4. Connect the electrical harness to the steering column control module connector.

  5. Perform a push-pull-push test to make sure that the steering column control module electrical connector is seated properly.
  6. Install the lower screw that attaches the steering column lower shroud to the steering column.

    1.5 Nm (1.1 lbs-ft) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Torx T20 socket
    • 1/4 in std ratchet
    • 2 in extension
    • Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 N.m - 2.0 N.m screwdriver (installation only)
      • Torx T20 bit, 70 mm
      • Wiha 1/4 in bit holder adapter
      • Wiha torque setter

  7. Install the upper screws that attach the steering column lower shroud to the steering column.

    1.5 Nm (1.1 lbs-ft) 

    Tip: Use of the following tool(s) is recommended:

    • Torx T20 socket
    • 1/4 in std ratchet
    • 2 in extension
    • Wiha TorqueVario-S 0.8 N.m - 2.0 N.m screwdriver (installation only)
      • Torx T20 bit, 70 mm
      • Wiha 1/4 in bit holder adapter
      • Wiha torque setter

  8. Install the clips that attach the steering column upper shroud to the lower shroud.

  9. Remove the red locking tab from the new steering column control module by lifting it off.
  10. Install the steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL (REMOVE AND INSTALL) .
  11. Install the driver airbag. See AIRBAG - DRIVER (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
  12. Connect 12V power. See 12V/LV POWER (DISCONNECT AND CONNECT) .
  13. Update the vehicle firmware. See SOFTWARE UPDATE
  14. Connect a laptop with Toolbox 3 to the vehicle.
  15. In Toolbox, click Actions, type "SCCM" in the search field, click on "PING-TP_ SCCM", and then select Run  .
  16. Click Actions, type "VCLEFT" in the search field, click on "TEST-SELF_ VCLEFT_X_SWC", and then select Run  .
  17. Click Actions, type "COLUMN" in the search field, click on "TEST-SELF_ VCLEFT_X_STEERING-COLUMN", and then select Run  .
  18. Click Actions, type "COLUMN" in the search field, click on PROC_STEERING_COLUMN_CALIBRATION, and then select Run  .
  19. Click Actions, type "SCCM" in the search field, click on TEST_SCCM_X_STEERING-WHEEL-ANGLE, and then select Run  .
  20. Click Actions, type "VCFRONT" in the search field, click on TEST-RESET_VCFRONT, and then select Run  .
  21. Perform a full firmware re-installation. See SOFTWARE REINSTALL - TOOLBOX .
  22. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
  23. Install the rear underhood apron. See UNDERHOOD APRON - REAR (REMOVE AND REPLACE) .
