System Operation: Pickup
- Disconnect air by-pass hose from air cleaner. See Figure. Start engine and set at idle. With temperature less than 43°F (6°C) air should exit from hose. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. At idle air should not exit from hose.
- Accelerate engine RPM and quickly release to close throttle valve. Air should exit momentarily from hose. Increase engine speed to 3000 RPM. Air should exit from hose.
- Keep air by-pass hose disconnected and engine at idle. Disconnect hose at VTV, which goes to vapor filter. See Figure. Air should exit from hose within 7-14 seconds. Reconnect hose to VTV.
- Disconnect hose between VSV and ASV at the VSV. See Figure. Attach vacuum gauge to VSV. Start engine and increase engine speed to 4800 RPM. Vacuum gauge should read zero. Return engine to idle. Pinch hose at vacuum switch without disconnecting. Increase engine speed to 4800 RPM. Vacuum gauge should read intake manifold vacuum.
- Reconnect all disconnected hoses. If no problem is detected, system is operating properly. If system is not operating properly, inspect individual components.
