DEFOGGER & BLOWER MOTOR CONTINUE TO RUN WHILE KEY IS OFF
YEAR(S): 1990
MANUFACTURER: Toyota
MODEL(S): Landcruiser
DATE OF ISSUE: March 1998
ISSUE & TIP
I recently repaired a 1990 Toyota Landcruiser with the following problem: If the ignition key was turned OFF while the rear window defogger was ON, the defogger and blower motor would continue to run, discharging the battery.
The cause: A loss of ground to the rear hatch (the upper portion with the window in it. Voltage feeds back through the rear wiper circuit, through the wiper and gauge fuses, and keeps the ignition relay activated.
The solution: Add a ground wire between the upper corner of the hatch and this chassis.
