Ignitor Power Transistor

  1. Turn ignition off. Unplug 4-pin connector from ignition module, located near the alternator. See Figure. Disconnect electrical connectors from ignition coil pack.
  2. Turn ignition on. Connect ohmmeter between terminal No. 2 of third ignition coil and ground. See Fig 1-21. Using a 3-volt battery, apply 3 volts to terminal No. 2 of 4-pin connector. See Fig 1-21. With 3 volts applied, ensure ohmmeter indicates continuity momentarily.
  3. Connect ohmmeter between terminal No. 2 of first ignition coil and ground. Apply 3 volts to terminal No. 4 of 4-pin connector. See Fig 1-21. With 3 volts applied to terminal No. 4, also apply 3 volts to terminal No. 2 of 4-pin connector. Ensure ohmmeter momentarily indicates continuity. See Fig 1-21.
  4. Connect ohmmeter between terminal No. 2 of second ignition coil and ground. See Fig 1-21. Apply 3 volts to terminal No. 3 of 4-pin connector. With 3 volts applied to terminal No. 3, also apply 3 volts to terminal No. 2.
  5. Ensure ohmmeter momentarily indicates continuity. See Fig 1-21. Replace assembly if defective. If ignitor is okay, check pick-up coil resistance. See PICK-UP COIL AIR GAP  under IGNITION CHECKS (SUPRA TURBO).
