Idle-Up System
NOTE:
Ensure coolant temperature sensor operates properly before checking idle-up system. See COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR under ENGINE SENSORS & SWITCHES.
- Remove idle-up Vacuum Switching Valve (VSV). Idle-up VSV is center VSV, located near end of valve cover on passenger's side.NOTE: The idle-up VSV may also be identified using appropriate illustration in THEORY/OPERATION article or wire color. See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance and for continuity between idle-up VSV electrical terminals. Replace idle-up VSV if resistance is not 37-44 ohms or continuity does not exist.
- Ensure no continuity exists between each electrical terminal and idle-up VSV body. Test idle-up VSV by applying air pressure to designated area and checking air passage, and then applying battery voltage and ground and retesting. See Fig 1. Replace idle-up VSV if defective.
