PAIR System Test

  1. Check hoses and tubes for cracks, kinks, damage or loose connections. Using "T" connector, install vacuum gauge in vacuum line to PAIR reed valve. See Fig 1.
  2. Ensure engine coolant temperature is less than 95°F (35°C). Disconnect No. 2 air hose from PAIR reed valve. See Fig 1. Start engine and allow to idle. Ensure bubbling sound is heard from PAIR reed valve. Ensure vacuum gauge indicates vacuum with engine idling.
  3. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Ensure vacuum gauge indicates no vacuum with engine idling. Ensure bubbling sound is not heard from PAIR reed valve.
  4. Increase engine speed to 2500 RPM and quickly close throttle. Ensure vacuum gauge momentarily indicates no vacuum. Ensure bubbling noise at PAIR reed valve momentarily stops.
  5. If system does not operate correctly, check individual components. Remove vacuum gauge. Reinstall No. 2 air hose and vacuum hose.
