Ignition Coil Resistance

  1. Remove necessary components and disconnect spark plug wire and electrical connector from ignition coil. Remove bolt and ignition coil from cylinder head. Mark ignition coil location for reassembly reference.
  2. Using ohmmeter, measure ignition coil primary resistance. See Fig 1. Replace ignition coil if primary resistance is not .67-1.0 5 ohms at 14-122°F (-10-50°C) and .85-1.23 ohms at 122-212°F (50-100°C).
  3. Using ohmmeter, measure ignition coil secondary resistance. See Fig 2. Replace ignition coil if secondary resistance is not 9300-16,000 ohms at 14-122°F (-10-50°C) and 11,700-18,800 ohms at 122-212°F (50-100°C). Reinstall ignition coil.
