Ignition Coil Resistance (DISTRIBUTORLESS Ignition System)

  1. Ignition coil primary resistance cannot be checked. Only the ignition coil secondary resistance may be checked. Disconnect spark plug wires from ignition coil.
  2. Using ohmmeter, check ignition coil secondary resistance between spark plug wire terminals on ignition coil. See Fig 1. Replace ignition coil if secondary resistance is not within specification. See DISTRIBUTORLESS TYPE IGNITION SYSTEM IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE - Ohms  table. Reinstall spark plug wires.

Cold (1) (3) 9700-16,700
Hot (2) (3) 12,400-19,600
(1) Cold is with temperature of 14-122°F (-10-50°C).
(2) Hot is with temperature of 122-212°F (50-100°C).
(3) Primary ignition coil resistance cannot be measured.
