Crankshaft Position Sensor

  1. Disconnect electrical connector for crankshaft position sensor. See Fig 1. Electrical connector is located on driver's side front corner of engine. Crankshaft position sensor is located near crankshaft pulley, just above oil pan on driver's side of engine.
  2. Manufacturer recommends removing crankshaft position sensor before checking the resistance. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove lower engine cover, generator and generator mounting bracket. Remove bolts, crankshaft position sensor and "O" ring.
  3. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between NE- and NE+ terminals on crankshaft position sensor. See Fig 1. Replace crankshaft position sensor if resistance is not within specification. See DISTRIBUTORLESS TYPE IGNITION SYSTEM CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR  RESISTANCE table.
  4. Reinstall crankshaft position sensor using NEW "O" ring. Apply engine oil to "O" ring before installing crankshaft position sensor. Install and tighten crankshaft position sensor bolts to 75 INCH lbs. (8.5 N.m). Reinstall remaining components.
