Safety Requirements
CAUTION:
If repair operation is incorrectly performed on an electric vehicle (EV), an electrical shock, leakage or explosion could be caused. Be sure to perform repair operation correctly. See HIGH-VOLTAGE DISABLE .
CAUTION:
- Due to the discharge resistance, it takes at least 10 minutes before the 300V electricity is sufficiently discharged from the condenser in the inverter circuit.
- Even after the 10 minutes have passed, the following precaution should be observed. Before touching a 300V cable or any other cable which you cannot identify, use a tester to confirm that the voltage through the cable is 12V or less.
- After removing the service plug, cover the plug connector with rubber or vinyl tape.
The traction (high-voltage) batteries store substantial amounts of energy, which can cause serious injury or death. Traction batteries should never be crushed or punctured. This could cause burns or possible explosion. High-voltage wiring (orange) should not be cut or touched if the conductor is exposed. This could cause shock, burns, or other serious injury.
- Vehicle or battery pack fire can be extinguished by continuous large amounts of water or Class D powder extinguisher agent (Metal X or equivalent).
- Battery voltage will not follow water back up a hose and cause shock when the vehicle is not connected to a charging device.
- If the vehicle is connected to a charging device, DO NOT use water to extinguish a vehicle fire.
- A Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) should be used when fighting a vehicle fire.
