Test No. 20: Jam Protection Function & Auto Up Or Down Function Does Not Operate On Power Window
NOTE:
Jam protection function causes power window to stop and open half way if something becomes caught between window and window frame during power window auto up (automatic closing) operation.
NOTE:
Jam protection switch is built into the power window motor and functions to turn off before top dead center and delivers input signal to driver's door Electronic Control Unit (ECU). The driver's door ECU uses this input signal and results in fully closing the window. Jam protection pulse switch is built into the power window motor and outputs and on/off pulse when power window motor operates.
- Check wiring harness and electrical connectors between jam protection limit switch and driver's door ECU, and between jam protection pulse switch and driver's door ECU. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER WINDOWS - CARS article. Jam protection limit switch may also be referred to as limit switch. Jam protection pulse switch may also be referred to as pulse sensor. Driver's door ECU is located on driver's door and is incorporated into the power window master switch. See Figure. Driver's door ECU may also be referred to as power window master switch. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connector is defective, repair as necessary and recheck operation of jam protection and auto up or down function.
- Jam protection limit switch, jam protection pulse switch or driver's door ECU maybe be the cause. If necessary to verify proper voltage and input signals at driver's door ECU, see DRIVER'S DOOR ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS.
