Test No. 30: All Functions Of Keyless Entry System Does Not Operate

  1. Perform TEST "A"; ONLY WIRELESS CONTROL FUNCTION INOPERATIVE under SYSTEM TESTS in KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - RAV4 article.
  2. Check wiring harness and electrical connectors passenger's side Junction Block (J/B) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) and wireless door control receiver. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - RAV4 article. Passenger's side J/B ECU is located at passenger's side of instrument panel. See Figure. Wireless door control receiver is located near driver's side of vehicle and contains a 5-pin electrical connector. See Fig 1. Wireless door control receiver may also be referred to as wireless door lock ECU. If wiring harness and electrical connectors are okay, go to next step. If wiring harness or electrical connector are defective, repair as necessary and recheck keyless entry system operation.
  3. Check passenger's side J/B ECU for proper voltage and input signals. See PASSENGER'S SIDE JUNCTION BLOCK ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT  under PIN VOLTAGE TESTS. If proper voltage and input signals exist, go to next step. If proper voltage and input signals do not exist, repair as necessary and recheck keyless entry system operation.
  4. Replace passenger's side J/B ECU with a known-good passenger's side J/B ECU and recheck keyless entry system operation. If keyless entry system operates properly, original passenger's side J/B ECU was defective. If keyless entry system still does not operate properly, check wiring harness and electrical connectors for passenger's side J/B ECU and keyless entry system components for intermittent problem. See WIRING DIAGRAMS in POWER DOOR LOCKS - TRUCKS (EXCEPT SEQUOIA) article and REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEMS - RAV4 article. Repair wiring harness or electrical connector as necessary.
