Without Hand-Held Tester

NOTE: If ignition switch is turned from ON to ACC or LOCK during the test mode, DTC will be erased.
  1. Turn ignition switch OFF. Shift lever to P range. Using scan tool 09843-18020, connect terminals Ts and E1 of DLC1. Check that the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position and turn ignition switch ON. Check that the ABS warning light blinks. If ABS warning light does not blink, inspect the ABS warning light or the Ts terminal circuit. See TS TERMINAL CIRCUIT  or ABS WARNING LIGHT CIRCUIT  under SYSTEM TESTING.
  2. Check the deceleration sensor. Check master cylinder pressure sensor by depressing brake pedal for 1 second or more. At this time, the ABS warning light should illuminate for 3 seconds. At this time for 4WD:
    • Check the center differential lock switch, by turning switch from OFF to ON and OFF again.
    • Check L4 position switch, by shifting transfer lever to L4 position and turn the center differential lock switch ON. Then, shift transfer lever to H4 position.
  3. Check speed sensor signal, by driving vehicle straight forward, faster than 28 mph (45 km/h) for several seconds and check that the ABS warning light goes off. Stop vehicle and connect scan tool 09843-18020, to Tc and E1 of DLC1. Read the number of blinks output by ABS warning light. If every sensor is normal, a normal code is output of 0.25 seconds ON and 0.25 seconds OFF, is repeated.
  4. After doing check, disconnect scan tool and turn ignition switch OFF.
