Throttle Position Sensor: MR2

  1. There are 2 types of throttle bodies and TP sensors used depending on type of transaxle used. On models with a standard type manual transaxle, the driver operates the clutch and shifts the transaxle. On models with sequential manual transaxle, the transaxle is electronically controlled and the clutch is operated and transaxle is shifted hydraulically by moving the shift lever forward or backward. Sequential manual transaxle may be identified by shift lever pattern which consists of "R", "N", "S" and "+" in place of the conventional type shift lever pattern and no clutch pedal is used.
  2. For models with standard type manual transaxle, go to next step. For models with sequential manual transaxle, see THROTTLE BODY  under IDLE CONTROL SYSTEMS for testing of TP sensor.
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect electrical connector from TP sensor on throttle body. Note terminal identification on TP sensor. See Figure.
  4. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between specified terminals in relation to throttle position. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR RESISTANCE  table. Replace components as necessary if resistance is not within specification.
