Engine Idle Speed: Inspection

  1. INITIAL CONDITIONS 
    1. Engine at normal operating temperature
    2. Air cleaner installed
    3. All pipes and hoses of air induction system connected
    4. All vacuum lines properly connected
    5. SFI system wiring connectors fully plugged
    6. All operating accessories switched OFF
    7. Ignition timing check correctly
    8. Transmission in neutral range
    9. A/C switched OFF
  2. CONNECT HAND-HELD TESTER OR OBD II SCAN TOOL 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.

    3. Please refer to the hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool operator's for further details.
  3. INSPECT IDLE SPEED 
    1. Race the engine at 2,500 RPM for approx. 90 seconds.
    2. Check the idle speed.

      Idle speed (w/ Cooling fan OFF): 700 +/- 50 RPM 

    If the idle speed is not as specified, check the IAC valve and air intake system.

  4. DISCONNECT HAND-HELD TESTER OR OBD II SCAN TOOL
