On-Vehicle Inspection

  1. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY 

    Check that the throttle linkage moves smoothly.

  2. INSPECT THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR 
    1. Disconnect the sensor connector.
    2. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the throttle body.
    3. Apply vacuum to the throttle opener.
    4. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between each terminal.

      Resistance: 

      RESISTANCE CHECK

      Throttle valve condition Between terminals Resistance
      Fully closed VTA - E2 0.2 - 6.3Ω
      Fully open VTA - E2 2.0 - 10.2Ω
      - VC - E2 2.5 - 5.9Ω

    5. Reconnect the vacuum hose to the throttle body.
  3. INSPECT THROTTLE OPENER 
    1. Allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature.
    2. Check idle speed.

      Idle speed: 650 +/- 50 rpm 

    3. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the throttle opener, and plug the hose end.
    4. Check the throttle opener setting speed.

      Throttle opener setting speed: 1,100 -1,700 rpm 

      If the throttle opener setting is not as specified, replace the throttle body.

    5. Stop the engine.
    6. Reconnect the vacuum hose to the throttle opener.
    7. Start the engine and check that the idle speed returns to the correct speed.
