Inspection Procedure

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING HAND-HELD TESTER (OPERATE VSV FOR ACIS) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine and turn the hand-held tester on.
    3. Select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / INTAKE CTL VSV1. Operate the VSV for AICS.

      OK: Operational noise can be heard. 

    1. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN ON PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (SEE  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  ) 
    2. NG: Go to next step. 
  2. CHECK INTAKE AIR CONTROL VALVE (OPERATION) 
    1. Disconnect the B18 air intake valve connector.
    2. Apply battery voltage between the terminals of the air intake valve connector.
    3. Check the air intake valve operation.

      OK: Operational noise can be heard.

    1. NG: REPLACE INTAKE AIR SURGE TANK 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VSV FOR ACIS - ECM, VSV FOR ACIS - EFI No. 2 RELAY) 
    1. Check the wire harness and connectors between the VSV for ACIS and ECM.
      1. Disconnect the B18 VSV for ACIS connector.
      2. Disconnect the B45 ECM connector.
      3. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the VSV for ACIS connector and ECM connector.

        Standard (Check for open): 

        TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Tester Connections Specified Conditions
        VSV for ACIS (B18-1) - ACIS (B45-33) Below 1 Ω

        Standard (Check for short): 

        TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Tester Connections Specified Conditions
        VSV for ACIS (B18-1) or ACIS (B45-33) - E1 (B47-1) 10 kΩ or higher
      4. Reconnect the VSV for ACIS connector.
      5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Check the wire harness between the VSV for ACIS and EFI relay.
      1. Disconnect the B18 VSV for ACIS connector.
      2. Remove the EFI No. 2 fuse from the engine room R/B and J/B.
      3. Measure the resistance of the VSV for ACIS connector and engine room R/B and J/B (EFI No. 2 fuse).

        Standard (Check for open): 

        TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION

        Tester Connections Specified Conditions
        VSV for ACIS (B18-2) - Engine Room R/B and J/B (EFI No. 2 relay) (2) Below 1 Ω
      4. Reconnect the VSV for ACIS connector.
      5. Reinstall the EFI No. 2 fuse.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE ECM (SEE  REPLACEMENT  )
