Window Defogger System: Inspection

  1. INSPECT REAR WINDOW DEFOGGER SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Inspect the defogger switch.
      1. Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 2 and negative (-) lead to terminal 3. Check that the indicator lamp turns on.

      If the result is not as specified, replace the switch or bulb.

    2. Inspect the defogger timer operation.
      1. Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 2 and negative (-) lead to terminal 3.

      3. Connect the battery's positive (+) lead to terminal 6 through a 1.4 W test bulb.
      4. Turn the defogger switch ON. Check that:
        • The indicator lamp in the switch and test bulb turn on.
        • After approximately 12 to 18 minutes, the indicator lamp and test bulb turn off.

      If the result is not as specified, replace the switch.

  2. INSPECT DEFOGGER RELAY (Marking: DEFOG) 
    1. Remove the DEFOG relay from the instrument panel J/B.
    2. Measure the resistance of the relay.
      TERMINAL NO SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Terminal No. Specified Condition
      3-5 10kΩ or higher
      3-5 Below 1 Ω (when battery voltage is applied to terminal 1 and 2)

      If the result is not as specified, replace the relay.
