On-Vehicle Inspection
CAUTION:
When removing deposits on the throttle body, be sure to remove the connector or remove the battery.
- INSPECT SYSTEM OPERATION
- Inspect the throttle control motor operating sound.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- When turning the accelerator pedal position sensor lever, check the running sound of the motor. Also, check that there is no friction sound.
If the result is not as specified, check the throttle control motor (see step 2), wiring and ECM.
- Inspect the accelerator pedal position sensor.
- Connect the hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch ON.
- Make sure that the check engine warning lamp (CHK ENG) does not illuminate.
- When turning the accelerator pedal position sensor lever to the full-open position, make sure that the CURRENT DATA throttle valve opening percentage (THROTTLE POS) shows the standard value below.
Standard throttle valve opening percentage: 60% or more
If the result is not as specified, check that the accelerator pedal position sensor (see step e), wiring and ECM.
- INSPECT THROTTLE CONTROL MOTOR RESISTANCE
- Disconnect the connector.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between the terminals.
Resistance: 0.3 to 100 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
If the result is not as specified, replace the throttle body.
- INSPECT THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (See DTC P0120, P0122, P0123, P0220, P0222, P0223, P2135: THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR/SWITCH "A & B" CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION LOW/HIGH INPUT & THROTTLE/PEDAL POSITION SENSOR/SWITCH "A & B" VOLTAGE CORRECTION
)
.
If necessary, replace the throttle body assembly (see REMOVAL and INSTALLATION ).
- INSPECT ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR (See
INSPECT ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR )
If necessary, replace the accelerator pedal assembly (see REMOVAL and INSTALLATION ).
- Inspect the throttle control motor operating sound.
