DTC P0500 Vehicle Speed Sensor "A": Description

Vehicles, which are equipped with ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), detect the vehicle speed using the skid control ECU and wheel speed sensor. The wheel speed sensor monitors the wheel rotation speed and sends a signal to the skid control ECU. The skid control ECU converts the wheel speed signal into a 4- pulse signal and transmits it to the ECM via the combination meter. The ECM determines the vehicle speed based on the frequency of the pulse signal.

P0500	Satisfying all of the following conditions, 2 sec. (Intake air temperature: -10°C or more) or 8 sec. (Intake air temperature: less than -10°C) elapsed. After 2 sec. (the engine coolant temperature: 20°C or more) or 30 sec. (the engine coolant temperature: less than 20°C) with the park/neutral position switch set to P, N position. No abnormality of the throttle position sensor is detected. After 0.5 sec. or more with the ignition switch turned ON. No vehicle speed is signal to ECM. The engine rpm is equal to the speed sensor rpm or more when the throttle opening angle is as shown below. The throttle opening angle is less than 13° and the engine rpm is 2,350 or more. The throttle opening angle is less than 21° and the engine rpm is 2,680 or more. The throttle opening angle is less than 30° and the engine rpm is 2,835 or more. After 2 sec. (the engine coolant temperature: 20°C or more) or 30 sec. (the engine coolant temperature: less than 20°C) with the park/neutral position switch set to P, N position.
No abnormality of the throttle position sensor is detected.

No vehicle speed is signal to ECM.

The throttle opening angle is less than 13° and the engine rpm is 2,350 or more.
The throttle opening angle is less than 21° and the engine rpm is 2,680 or more.
The throttle opening angle is less than 30° and the engine rpm is 2,835 or more.
The throttle opening angle is less than 30° and the engine rpm is 3,240 or more.
