Fuel Injector: Inspection
- DISCHARGE FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE (See REMOVAL )
- INSPECT INJECTION VOLUME
CAUTION:
- This test involves high-pressure fuel and electricity.
- Take every precaution regarding safe handling of both the fuel and the electrical parts.
- Perform this test in a safe area, and avoid any sparks or flame.
- Do not smoke.
- Disconnect the fuel inlet hose (fuel tube connector) from the fuel filter.

CAUTION:- Perform disconnecting operations of the fuel tube connector (quick type B) after reading the precautions (see PRECAUTION ).
- Prevent the pressure remaining in the fuel line from causing fuel to splash inside the engine compartment.
- Use a new fuel main hose and take out the fuel tube connector from its hose.
Fuel tube connector: Part No. 23271-50180
- Connect SST (hose) and fuel tube connector to the fuel filter outlet.
SST 09268-41047
CAUTION: Perform connecting operations of the fuel tube connector (quick type B) after reading the precautions (see PRECAUTION ).HINT:
Use the vehicle's fuel filter.
- Remove the pressure regulator from the delivery pipe (see REMOVAL ).
- Install the O-ring to the fuel inlet of the pressure regulator.
- Connect SST (hose) to the fuel inlet of the pressure regulator with SST (union) and the 2 bolts.
SST 09268-41047 (09268-41091)
Torque: 7.5 N*m (77 kgf*cm, 66 in.*lbf)
- Connect the fuel return hose to the fuel outlet of the pressure regulator.
- Install the O-ring to the injector.
- Connect SST (adaptor and hose) to the injector, and hold the injector and union with SST (clamp).
SST 09268-41047 (09268-41110, 09268-41300)
- Put the injector into the graduated cylinder.CAUTION: Install a suitable vinyl tube onto the injector to contain the gasoline spray.
- Operate the fuel pump.
- Connect the intelligent tester to the Controller Area Network Vehicle Interface Module (CAN VIM). Then connect the CAN VIM to the Data Link Connector 3 (DLC3).
- Turn the ignition switch ON.NOTE: Do not start the engine.
- Push the intelligent tester main switch ON.
- Select Active Test and enter the following menus: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / ACTIVE TEST / FUEL PUMP / SPD.
- Connect SST (wire) to the injector and the battery for 15 seconds, and measure the injection volume with a graduated cylinder. Test each injector 2 or 3 times.
SST 09842-30070
- Injection volume: 56 to 59 cm 3 (3.4 to 4.2 cu. in.) in 15 seconds
- Difference between each injector: 15 cm 3 (0.9 cu. in.) or less
If the result is not as specified, replace the injector.
- INSPECT FUEL LEAK
- Disconnect the test probes of SST (wire) from the battery and check the fuel leakage from the injector.
SST 09842-30070
Fuel drop: 1 drop or less per 12 minutes
- Turn the ignition switch OFF.
- Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
- Remove SST and fuel tube connector.
SST 09842-30070, 09268-41047
- Disconnect the intelligent tester from the DLC3.
- Reconnect the fuel inlet pipe (fuel tube connector) to the fuel filter.CAUTION: Perform connecting operations of the fuel tube connector (quick type B) after reading the precautions (see PRECAUTION ).
- Disconnect the test probes of SST (wire) from the battery and check the fuel leakage from the injector.
