Inspection Procedure

INSPECT ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT

Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the tester on.
Enter the following menus: Power train/Engine and ECT/Trouble Codes.

Read the DTCs.

Result

INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 OR P0158)
1. Inspect the P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 flow chart.
  HINT:
  - If 0136 or P0156 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
  - If 0137 or P0157 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
  - If 0138 or 0158 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
  - If DTC P0607 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157, P0158 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).
    NEXT: Go to step 6
CHECK FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
1. Allow the engine to idle and rev the engine.
2. Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.
  If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair it and proceed to step 4. If no exhaust gas leaks present proceed to step 4.
  - If no exhaust gas leaks are present, a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit is suspected.
  - If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.

PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN

Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature becomes 75° (167°F) or more.
Perform the driving pattern.

Read the DTCs.

1. Inspect the P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 flow chart.

  - If 0136 or P0156 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
  - If 0137 or P0157 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
  - If 0138 or 0158 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) ). Then proceed to step 6.
  - If DTC P0607 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157, P0158 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).

INSPECT ECM

Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
Stop the engine and wait for 30 minutes.
Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
Start engine and allow it to idle for 2 minutes.
Turn the tester on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain/Engine and ECT/Trouble Codes.

Read the DTCs.
