Inspection Procedure

1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
3. Turn the Techstream on.
4. Enter the following menu: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
5. Read the DTCs (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).

Result 

B: Go to step  3

A: Go to Next Step 

1. Inspect the P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 flowchart.

HINT:

• If P0136 or P0156 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) .
• If P0137 or P0157 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) .
• If P0138 or P0158 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) .
• If DTC P0607 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).

NEXT: Go to step  6

1. Allow the engine to idle and rev the engine.
2. Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.

   If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair it and proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN". If no exhaust gas leaks are present proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN". (See  4)

   HINT:

   • If no exhaust gas leaks are present, a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit is suspected.
   • If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.

1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Clear DTC (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
3. Start the engine.
4. Warm up the engine until the engine coolant temperature becomes 75°C (167°F) or more.
5. Perform the drive pattern.
   1. Accelerate the vehicle to 80 km/h (50 mph) and stop the vehicle.
   2. Drive the vehicle between 60 and 80 km/h (35 and 50 mph) for 5 minutes.
6. Enter the following menu: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
7. Read the DTCs.

Result 

B: REPLACE ECM  (See ECM )

C: Go to step  6

A: Go to Next Step 

1. Inspect the P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 flowchart.

HINT:

• If P0136 or P0156 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) .
• If P0137 or P0157 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) .
• If P0138 or P0158 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0137 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0138 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0139 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 1 SENSOR 2); DTC P0156 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0157 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT LOW VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0158 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT HIGH VOLTAGE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2); DTC P0159 OXYGEN SENSOR CIRCUIT SLOW RESPONSE (BANK 2 SENSOR 2) .
• If DTC P0607 and P0136, P0137, P0138, P0156, P0157 or P0158 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).

1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
2. Clear DTC (See DTC CHECK/CLEAR ).
3. Stop the engine and wait for 30 minutes.
4. Start the engine and allow it to idle for 2 minutes.
5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
6. Check the DTCs.
