Inspection Procedure

NOTE: When replacing the skid control ECU, perform initialization of linear solenoid valve and calibration (see INITIALIZATION  ).
  1. CHECK STOP LIGHT SWITCH OPERATION 
    1. Check that the stop light comes on when the brake pedal is depressed and turns off when the brake pedal is released.

      OK 

      STOP LIGHT SWITCH SPECIFICATION

      Pedal Condition Stop Light Condition
      Brake pedal depressed Turns on
      Brake pedal released Turns off

      HINT:

      Check the stop light bulb as it may have burnt out.

    NG: Go to step  4

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  2. CHECK SKID CONTROL ECU (STP VOLTAGE) 
    1. Measure the voltage of the connector.

      HINT:

      Measure the voltage from behind the connector with the connector connected to the skid control ECU.

      Standard voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE CHART

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      S8-14 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal depressed 8 to 14 V
      S8-14 (STP) - Body ground Brake pedal released Below 1 V

    NG: Go to step  7

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  3. RECONFIRM DTC 
    1. Clear the DTCs (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).
    2. Turn the power switch ON (READY).
    3. Check the same DTCs are recorded (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR  ).

      Result 

      DTC RESULT REFERENCE

      Result Proceed to
      DTC is not output A
      DTC is output B

    B: REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU 

    A: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  

  4. INSPECT STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the stop light switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance of the switch.

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 -2 Switch pin not pushed Below 1Ω
      1 -2 Switch pin pushed 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE STOP LIGHT SWITCH ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to Next Step

  5. INSPECT STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Check the stop light control relay (See INSPECTION ).

    OK: The stop light control relay is normal. 

    NG: REPLACE STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY ASSEMBLY 

    OK: Go to Next Step 

  6. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (STOP LIGHT SWITCH - STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY) 
    1. Disconnect the S16 switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the S31 relay connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

    Standard resistance 

    STANDARD RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

    Tester Connection Specified Condition
    S16-1 - S31-2 (STP) Below 1Ω
    S16-1 - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
  7. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to Next Step

  8. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (SKID CONTROL ECU - STOP LIGHT CONTROL RELAY) 
    1. Disconnect the S8 ECU connector.
    2. Disconnect the S31 switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance of the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE REFERENCE CHART

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      S8-14(STP) - S31-8 (OUT) Below 1Ω

      NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE SKID CONTROL ECU
