Inspection Procedure
- CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the power switch ON (IG).
- Turn the tester on.
- Enter the following menus: Power train / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
- Read the DTCs.
DTC P0606 and P0136, P0137 or P0138 are output: Go to next step
DTC P0606 is output: Go to 3
- INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137 OR P0138)
- Inspect the P0136, P0137 or P0138 flow chart.
HINT:
- If 0136 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0137 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0138 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0139 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 2) ) . Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
- If 0137 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0137 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0138 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0139 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 2) ) . Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
- If 0138 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0137 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0138 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0139 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 2) ) . Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
- If DTC P0606 and P0136, P0137 or P0138 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).
Go to step 6.
- INSPECT FOR EXHAUST GAS LEAK
- Allow the engine to idle and rev the engine.
- Check for exhaust gas leaks around the heated oxygen sensor.
If any exhaust gas leaks are present, repair it and proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN". If no exhaust gas leaks present proceed to "PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN".
- If no exhaust gas leaks are present, a malfunction in the heated oxygen sensor circuit is suspected.
- If any exhaust gas leaks are present around the heated oxygen sensor, noise appears in the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor.
GO TO NEXT STEP
- PERFORM CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
- Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
- Start the engine and turn the tester on.
- Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature.
- Perform the drive pattern.
- Warm up the engine.
- Accelerate the vehicle to 50 mph (80 km/h) and stop the vehicle.
- Drive the vehicle at 35 to 50 mph (60 to 80 km/h) for 5 minutes or more.
- Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Code.
- Read the DTCs.

- INSPECT DTC (P0136, P0137 OR P0138)
- Inspect the P0136, P0137 or P0138 flow chart.
HINT:
- If 0136 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0137 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0138 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0139 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 2) ) . Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
- If 0137 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0137 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0138 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0139 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 2) ) . Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
- If 0138 is output, troubleshoot for that DTC first (See DTC P0136 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0137 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Low Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0138 Oxygen Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Bank 1 Sensor 2); DTC P0139 Oxygen Sensor Circuit Slow Response (Bank 1 Sensor 2) ) . Then proceed to "INSPECT ECM".
- If DTC P0606 and P0136, P0137 or P0138 are output, the output voltage of the heated oxygen sensor may remain close to 0 V or become high (around 1 V or more).
GO TO NEXT STEP
- INSPECT ECM
- Clear the DTC (See DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
- Stop the engine and wait for 30 minutes.
- Connect Techstream to the DLC3.
- Start the engine and it to idle for 2 minutes.
- Turn the tester on.
- Select the following menu items: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Code.
- Read the DTCs.
