Charging Stops during Plug-in Charging [09/2016 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (HEALTH CHECK) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Health Check.
    5. Check DTCs.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      No DTCs are output A
      DTCs are output B
    6. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO DTC CHART

  2. CHECK FOR VEHICLE CONTROL HISTORY 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Plug-in Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Plug-in Control > Utility 

      Tester Display
      Vehicle Control History (RoB)
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Utility 

      Tester Display
      Vehicle Control History (RoB)
    6. Check for Vehicle Control History.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      Vehicle Control History not stored A
      Vehicle Control History stored B
    7. Turn the power switch off.

    Result: 

    GO TO VEHICLE CONTROL HISTORY

  3. CHECK PLUG-IN CHARGE STATE (USING A KNOWN GOOD CHARGING CABLE) 
    NOTE:
    • On the customer's vehicle, perform plug-in charging using a known good charging cable and a known good AC power source.
    • Use the same voltage that the customer used to plug-in charge the vehicle.
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Health Check.
    5. Clear DTCs.
    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Plug-in Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Plug-in Control > Utility

      Vehicle Control History (RoB)
    7. Clear all Vehicle Control History items.
    8. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Utility

      Vehicle Control History (RoB)
    9. Clear all Vehicle Control History items.
    10. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Data List / Hybrid/EV Battery SOC.

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Data List

      Hybrid/EV Battery SOC
    11. According to the display on the Techstream, read the Data List and confirm that the SOC of the HV battery is less than 70%.

      HINT: 

      If the SOC of the HV battery is 70% or more, drive the vehicle in EV mode to discharge the HV battery until the SOC becomes less than 70%.

    12. Turn the power switch off.
    13. Turn the Charge Now on.

      HINT: 

      • If no charge schedule has been registered, the above step is not necessary.
      • Setting Charge Now to ON:

        - Push the charging timer switch (fuel control switch).

        - Using the steering pad switches, select "Charge Now" on the Charge Schedule screen of the multi-information display.

    14. On the customer's vehicle, perform plug-in charging using a known good charging cable and a known good AC power source until the HV battery is fully charged.
    15. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    16. Enter the following menus: Health Check.
    17. Check DTCs.
    18. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Plug-in Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Plug-in Control > Utility

    19. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Utility

    20. Check for Vehicle Control History.
    21. Turn the power switch off.
    22. Disconnect the charging cable.

      Result

    CAUSE ANALYSIS (VEHICLE RELATED CAUSE) 

    1. Analyze the cause according to the following table.

    2. Take appropriate action in accordance with the result of the cause analysis.

  4. CHECK PLUG-IN CHARGE STATE (USING THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGER CABLE ASSEMBLY PROVIDED WITH THE VEHICLE) 
    NOTE:
    • On a known good vehicle, perform plug-in charging using the customer's electric vehicle charger cable assembly and a known good AC power source.
    • Use the same voltage that the customer used to plug-in charge the vehicle.
    1. On a known good vehicle, perform plug-in charging using the customer's electric vehicle charger cable assembly and a known good AC power source until the HV battery is fully charged.
    2. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    3. Turn the power switch on (IG).
    4. Turn the Techstream on.
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Plug-in Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Plug-in Control > Utility

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Hybrid Control / Utility / Vehicle Control History (RoB).

      Powertrain > Hybrid Control > Utility

    7. Check for Vehicle Control History.
    8. Turn the power switch off.
    9. Disconnect the electric vehicle charger cable assembly.

    CAUSE ANALYSIS (CHARGING CABLE RELATED CAUSE) 

    1. Analyze the cause according to the following table.

    2. Take appropriate action in accordance with the result of the cause analysis.

    Result: 

    CAUSE ANALYSIS (USER / ENVIRONMENT / EXTERNAL POWER SOURCE/CHARGING STAND RELATED CAUSE) 

    1. Perform cause analysis in the order of "User Related Cause", "Environment Related Cause" and "External Power Source/Charging Stand Related Cause" categories as specified in the following tables below.
      USER RELATED CAUSE

      Possible Cause Action to be Taken
      Charge schedule settings changed during plug-in charging Explain to the customer that if the charge schedule is set during plug-in charging, charging will be suspended and will resume at the scheduled start time.
      Improper use of charging station Confirm how to properly use the charging station with user's Service Information or instructions etc.
      The charging cable was disconnected. Interview customer and provide instruction on usage.

      • Explain to the customer that if the charging connector is disconnected during plug-in charging, charging will be suspended and " Charging Stopped Connect Plug to Charge" will be displayed on the multi-information display the next time the power switch is turned on (IG).
      • Explain to the customer that if the charging cable is disconnected from the electrical outlet during plug-in charging, charging will be suspended and " Charging Stopped Check Charging Source" will be displayed on the multi-information display the next time the power switch is turned on (IG).
      ENVIRONMENT RELATED CAUSE

      Possible Cause Action to be Taken
      Plug-in charging was suspended due to power outage, circuit breaker operation, etc. Interview customer and provide instruction on usage.

      1. Explain to the customer that if a power outage occurs or a breaker is tripped, charging will be suspended.
      EXTERNAL POWER SOURCE/CHARGING STAND RELATED CAUSE

      Possible Cause Action to be Taken
      Charging was suspended by charging station or charging station was incompatible Interview customer and check the charging station.
      Refer to PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [09/2016 - ]
      1. It is possible that plug-in charging was suspended due to a power management function or charging control function of the charging station, or due to a compatibility problem. Check with the manufacturer of the charging station for details.
      Charging was suspended due to a malfunction caused by an abnormal electrical outlet voltage Interview customer and check the electrical outlet.

      1. If charging is stopped due to an abnormal electrical outlet voltage, check that plug-in charging can be performed at several different electrical outlets.
        • If the malfunction can be reproduced only at a specific electrical outlet, the electrical outlet voltage may be abnormal and should be checked by a qualified tradesperson.
        • If the malfunction can be reproduced at several different electrical outlets, replace the electric vehicle charger cable assembly.

          (Using the electric vehicle charger cable assembly of the customer's vehicle, try charging the vehicle at an electrical outlet other than one used by the customer, such as at the dealer.)

    2. Take appropriate action in accordance with the result of the cause analysis.
