Redundancy Control Unit Removal And Installation/Replacement

WARNING: Electricity hazard 
Failure to follow specified procedures may result in death or serious injury from electric shock when working on or near high-voltage components.
  • Only authorized and appropriately trained persons may carry out work on high-voltage vehicles and components.
  • Perform High Voltage isolation procedure prior to commencing work
  • Ensure appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is worn until the system is verified safe
WARNING: Hot surface 
Failure to follow specified procedures may result in severe injuries due to burns or scalds.
  • Do not commence work until components/liquids have sufficiently cooled down.
  • Always use personal protective equipment (PPE).
NOTE: Contamination 
Contamination or moisture entering the cooling system can lead to malfunction or functional failure.
  • The vehicle cooling system and any removed components should be capped/sealed during work to prevent contamination entry

Removal Procedure: 

  1. Disconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Refer to 12V BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION
  2. Disable HV-System. Refer to HV-SYSTEM DISABLING/ENABLING
  3. Remove PDU EMI Filter. Refer to PDU EMI FILTER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT (US/CA)
  4. Remove power distribution unit (PDU) cradle. Refer to POWER DISTRIBUTION UNIT (PDU) CRADLE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT

  5. Remove 2 bolts (1).

    Torque: 56 Nm 

  6. Remove 2 bolts (2).

    Torque: 8 Nm 

  7. Disconnect electrical connector (1) from the redundancy control unit.
  8. Remove 3 bolts (2).

    Torque: 11 Nm 

  9. Remove the redundancy control unit (1) upwards in the direction of the arrow.

Installation Procedure:

Installations note: Make sure that the 3 outer bushing (1) are attached to the bracket when you install the redundancy control unit. 

  1. Installation is the reverse of removal procedure, noting the following.

    All fasteners must be tightened to torque specification! 

  2. Install power distribution unit (PDU) cradle. Refer to POWER DISTRIBUTION UNIT (PDU) CRADLE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT
  3. Install PDU EMI Filter. Refer to PDU EMI FILTER REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT (US/CA)
  4. Enable HV-System. Refer to HV-SYSTEM DISABLING/ENABLING
  5. Reconnect the 12V battery negative terminal. Refer to 12V BATTERY NEGATIVE CABLE DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION
  6. Diagnostics, Programming and Setup. Refer to DIAGNOSTICS, PROGRAMMING AND SETUP USING IDS IN SERVICE
