Seat Belt System

Technical Description:

All seats in the vehicle are equipped with three-point seat belts with pretensioners.

The pretensioner ensures that the belt keeps the passenger in an optimum position. When a pretensioner system is deployed, the belt webbing is by tightened up to 150 mm. Pretensioners work pyrotechnically with explosive charges.

A gas generator (similar concept to airbag deployment), is activated by an electrical signal from the ACU (Airbag Control Unit) immediately after deployment.

Gas expansion causes balls to travel along the tube and rotate a pinion attached to the belt spool, which is activated in about 2 ms.

Once they have been deployed, pretensioner systems are no longer effective, and have to be replaced.
