Determining Shims

The prescribed bearing preload is achieved by deducting the reading (0.97 mm), the preload of the bearings (0.08 mm) and the compression figure (0.10 mm) from the 2 x 1.5 mm thick shims.

Example:

• "start" Shims inserted = 3.00 mm
• "minus" Reading = -0.97 mm
• "minus" Preload = -0.08 mm
• "minus" Amount for settlement = -0.10 mm
• "equals" Thickness of shim = 1.85 mm

Remove output gear. Determine size of shim on basis of table. See TABLE OF SHIMS (DRIVE PINION AND INPUT GEAR)  . Install onto drive pinion.

Re-install output gear, tighten hex nut to 300 Nm, and secure with drift.
