ISSUE & TIP
On a 1984 Volvo DL 2.3 liter, look for a cut in the wiring harness caused by a sharp edge on the intake manifold as the harness passes through the opening between the number 3 and 4 cylinders.
The harness is tied to the manifold so that it is pulled up against this sharp edge in the casting. This may cause the temperature gauge to peg but other running problems can also occur because fuel injection wires are also in this harness.
