Checking Exhaust System

WARNING: Exhaust system may be extremely hot if vehicle has been driven immediately before commencing work. Allow system to cool before starting procedure, or special tool may be damage by heat.
  1. Remove exhaust system tail pipe. Attach Volvo adapter (999 5546) and pressure regulator (999 5544) to exhaust system. See Fig 1. Adjust pressure to 5.8 psi (0.4 bar). Lower pressure may be necessary, depending on condition of exhaust system.
  2. Check exhaust system by spraying soapy water on all joints and connections between cylinder head and rear HO2S. Only extremely small and slowly increasing bubbles are permissible. Repair as necessary.
