Transmission Control Module Programming - Read This First

A new Transmission Control Module (TCM) is delivered without software. TCM must be programmed in order to function after replacement. This requires using a Volvo factory scan tool (VADIS), or equivalent.

The software can only be ordered when the control module is installed in the car. VADIS reads off the new control module identity. This is required so that the correct software can be ordered.

CAUTION: Wait two minutes after the ignition has been switched off BEFORE removing TCM. The main relay must be voltage free before the control module can be removed from the car. If the engine cooling fan runs on after the ignition has been switched off, wait until it stops. Then wait a further 2 minutes.
CAUTION: Always check that the TCM and TCM connector pins and sleeves are not bent or damaged BEFORE replacing TCM. This may have caused the fault.
