Connecting Breakout Box & Preliminary Check
- Turn ignition off. Wait 2 minutes. No voltage should be present at main relay before removing ECM. If cooling fan runs on after ignition is turned off, wait until 2 minutes after fan stops. Remove ECM box cover and lay aside.NOTE: DO NOT touch ECM pins. Static electricity can damage ECM components.
- Put ECM Removal Tool (999 5722) around ECM. Move upper section of tool backwards to stop and pull up on tool. Carefully pull up ECM. Ensure no pins or sockets are damaged. Press adapter down carefully into grooves inside ECM box. Press removal tool around adapter. Move upper section of tool forward to stop and pull up tool.
- Ensure terminals in ECM and ECM connector are secure and wiring to female terminals is secured to pins. Connect adapter to ECM connector (wiring side) and connect breakout box. To check power and ground circuits, see POWER CIRCUITS and GROUND CIRCUITS .
