Battery Disconnect/Connect
When disconnecting and connecting battery, observe the following:
- Supplemental Restraining System (SRS) is active for a certain time after power is cut. Wait 3 minutes before starting work.
- Vehicles are equipped with air bag supplemental restraint system. Before attempting any repairs involving steering column, instrument panel or related components, see SERVICE PRECAUTIONS (or AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS) and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM in appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
- When connecting battery, key must be in position 2. No one must be in the car when battery is connected. Airbag module may activate when power is connected.
- When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery. Obtain an-theft radio security code.
- After battery has been disconnected, vehicle may have to be driven for a few minutes before engine runs normally.
- After connecting battery lead, initialize central locking, interior lighting and sun roof by using remote control, or VADIS vehicle communication, to unlock car.
- On vehicles equipped with manual or standard climate control, blower fan speed must be recalibrated after connecting battery. To recalibrate blower fan, turn ignition to ON position. Turn blower fan switch to maximum, and then to minimum.
- On vehicles equipped with sun roof, once battery has been reconnected, recalibration of sun roof may be necessary. Perform following procedure:
- Ensure sun roof is closed. Switch ignition to position "I". Press sun roof switch so that sun roof is in tilt position. Release switch.
- Press switch so that sun roof is in tilt position again, and hold for at least 5 seconds until sun roof closes. Release switch. If sun roof is in correct position, calibration is complete. If sun roof has not moved into correct position, repeat procedure. If sun roof is still not in correct position after completing second recalibration, continue to next step.
- Press sun roof switch so that sun roof completely opens. Release switch. Press switch in opposite direction and hold for at least 5 seconds to close sun roof. Release switch. Close sun roof and perform calibration procedure again.
NOTE:
Battery is located in rear of vehicle under cargo compartment floor panel.
