Central Locking, Keyless Entry System: Signals

The tables below summarize the input and output signals to the units in the central locking system. The signal types are divided into directly connected signals, serial communication and controller area network (CAN) communication.

CENTRAL ELECTRONIC MODULE (CEM) (4/56):

Input Signals Output Signals
Directly connected:  Directly connected: 
  • Switch for valet locking of the glove compartment and cargo compartment.
  • High/low beam switch for activating the approach lights on the steering wheel module (SWM)
  • Switch unlock tailgate, indication that handle is pressed in (2008-).
  • Contact breaker in lock unit, driver's door, for indicating open door.
  • Contact breaker in lock unit, passenger door, for indicating open door.
  • Contact breaker in lock unit, right-hand rear door, for indicating open door.
  • Contact breaker in lock unit, left-hand rear door, for indicating open door.
  • The switch in the tailgate lock unit indicates whether the lock unit is locked or not.
  • Contact breaker, hood, for indicating open hood (for vehicles with alarm).
  • Signal for unlocking from the supplemental restraint system module (SRS) if the airbags are triggered.
  • Lock motor, tailgate, for activating motor.
  • Lock motor for the fuel tank filler cover
Via serial communication:  Via serial communication: 
  • Light switch module (LSM), switch for unlocking the tailgate.
  • Light switch module (LSM), switch for opening the fuel tank filler cover.
  • Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), (further connected to the keyless vehicle module (KVM)).
  • Remote Keyless Entry (RKE), (further connected to the keyless vehicle module (KVM)).
Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication:  Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication: 
  • Infotainment control module (ICM) for customer adaptation
  • The driver door module (DDM) for locking and unlocking commands and for information about the lock motor's position (in certain cases).
  • The passenger door module (PDM) for locking and unlocking commands and for information about the lock motor's position (in certain cases).
  • Engine control module (ECM) for information about the status of the engine
  • Brake control module (BCM) for information about vehicle speed
  • Transmission control module (TCM), indicates the position of the gear selector.
  • The climate control module (CCM) for information about activation and deactivation of the deadlocks.
  • Keyless vehicle module (KVM) for the passive functions, locking, unlocking and starting.
  • Power Operated Tailgate Module (POT).
  • Infotainment control module (ICM) for customer adaptation
  • Driver door module (DDM) for locking and unlocking commands
  • Passenger door module (PDM) for locking and unlocking commands
  • Phone module (PHM) for unlocking via the Volvo On Call service.
  • Keyless vehicle module (KVM) for the passive functions, locking, unlocking and starting.
  • Driver information module (DIM) for text messages.
  • Power Operated Tailgate Module (POT).
DRIVER DOOR MODULE (DDM) (3/126)/PASSENGER DOOR MODULE (PDM) (3/127):

Input Signals Output Signals

  • Indication of locked mode from the central locking motor.
  • Central locking switch.
  • Output signal to central locking motor.
  • Output signal to lock motor for deadlock mode.
  • Output signal to both central locking motors and deadlocking when unlocking.
Via serial communication:  Via serial communication: 
  • Serial communication (LIN) with the rear door control module, on the same side, with the status of certain lock motors.
  • Serial communication (LIN) with switch child-proof lock.
  • Serial communication (LIN) with the rear door control module on the same side for the lock and unlock commands.
Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication:  Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication: 
  • Central electronic module (CEM) for locking and unlocking commands.
  • Central electronic module (CEM) for status information about the position of certain lock motors.
DRIVER INFORMATION MODULE (DIM) (5/1):

Input Signals Output Signals
Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication:  Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication: 
  • Information about whether the information lamp or warning lamp must be lit
  • Information about which text message must be displayed.

PHONE MODULE (PHM) (16/60) (OPTION):

  • Central electronic module (CEM) for remote unlocking via the Volvo On Call service.

KEYLESS VEHICLE MODULE (KVM) (4/93):

Input Signals Output Signals
Directly connected:  Directly connected: 
  • Lock button contact breaker for locking, in the handle on the side doors
  • Unlocking contact breaker in the handle on the side doors, indicates that the door handle has been pulled out
  • Switch unlocking tailgate, indication that the handle is pressed in.
  • Quick lock motor contact breaker in the side doors, the motors can be activated
  • Key-in contact breaker, indicates that the remote key is in the starter module.
  • Brake pedal switch (AUT), indicates that the brake pedal is pressed
  • Clutch switch (MAN), indicates that the clutch pedal is pressed
  • Inner antenna for communication with a key in the passenger compartment
  • Antenna in the cargo compartment, for communication with keys
  • External antennas in the door handles on the rear doors, for communication with keys.
  • External rear antenna, for communication with keys
  • Quick lock motor left front, activating
  • Quick lock motor right front, activating
  • Quick lock motor left rear, activating
  • Quick lock motor right rear, activating.
  • Quick lock motor tailgate
Via serial communication (ISO):  Via serial communication (ISO): 
  • Remote keyless entry (RKE) receiver, for receiving data from keys (via central electronic module (CEM)).
  • Remote keyless entry (RKE) receiver, control commands (via central electronic module (CEM)).
Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication:  Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication: 
  • Central electronic module (CEM) during keyless entry
  • Infotainment control module (ICM) when changing customer parameters.

  • Central electronic module (CEM) during keyless entry
