System Overview: Signals

The tables below summarize the input and output signals to the units in the system for the immobilizer. The signal types are divided into directly connected signals, serial communication and controller area network (CAN) communication.

CENTRAL ELECTRONIC MODULE (CEM) (4/56)

Input Signals Output Signals
Directly connected:  Directly connected: 
  • Starter button from the Start control module (SCU).
  • Switch at the brake pedal which indicates when the pedal is depressed (AUT).
  • Switch at the clutch pedal which indicates when the pedal is depressed (MAN).

Via serial communication (LIN):  Via serial communication (LIN): 
  • Start control module (SCU) for communication with the remote key.
  • Steering Column Lock Module (SCL) with information about the steering column lock status (does not apply to the USA/CDN market for 2009-).
  • Remote Receiver Module (RRX) for communication with remote keys and the alcolock's (option 2008-) handset unit (only vehicles without the keyless lock system).
  • Start control module (SCU) for communication with the remote key.
  • Steering Column Lock Module (SCL) for locking and unlocking commands (does not apply to the USA/CDN market for 2009-).
  • Remote Receiver Module (RRX) for communication with remote keys and the alcolock's (option 2008-) handset unit (only vehicles without the keyless lock system).
Via CAN communication (MS-CAN):  Via CAN communication (MS-CAN): 
  • Keyless vehicle module (KVM) to check the identity of the remote key and approve vehicle start (only vehicles with the keyless locking system).
  • Phone module (PHM) (16/60) (only vehicles with remote-controlled immobilization).
  • Driver information module (DIM) for displaying messages.
  • Keyless vehicle module (KVM) to check the identity of the remote key and approve vehicle start (only vehicles with the keyless locking system).
  • Phone module (PHM) (16/60) (only vehicles with remote-controlled immobilization).
Via CAN communication (HS-CAN):  Via CAN communication (HS-CAN): 
  • Engine control module (ECM) (4/46) with information on engine status and status of clutch pedal switch (3/271) as well as for the immobilizer function
  • Brake control module (BCM), with information about the vehicle's speed.
  • Transmission control module (TCM) with information about the gear selector position.
  • Engine control module (ECM) for communication and checking identity.
KEYLESS VEHICLE MODULE (KVM) (4/93) (ONLY VEHICLES WITH THE KEYLESS LOCKING SYSTEM)

Input signals Output signals
Directly connected:  Directly connected: 
  • Lock buttons on the handles on the side doors, for locking.
  • Unlocking switch in the handles on the side doors, indicates that the door handle has been pulled out
  • Unlocking contact breaker for the cargo compartment, indicates that the unlock button is pressed in.
  • Quick lock motor contact breaker in the side doors, the motors can be activated
  • Central electronic module (CEM), signal which indicates that the brake pedal is depressed (AUT).
  • Central electronic module (CEM), signal which indicates that the clutch pedal is depressed (MAN).
  • Switch 1 at start button on start control module (SCU), for indication of depressed button.
  • Internal antenna 1, for communication with a remote key in the passenger compartment.
  • Internal antenna 2, for communication with a remote key in the passenger compartment.
  • Antenna in the cargo compartment, for communication with remote key.
  • External antenna left rear, for communication with remote key.
  • External antenna right rear, for communication with remote key.
  • External rear antenna, for communication with remote key.
Via serial communication:  Via serial communication: 
  • Remote keyless entry (RKE) receiver (4/103), for receiving data from remote key.
  • Remote keyless entry (RKE) receiver (4/103), control commands
Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication:  Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication: 
  • Central electronic module (CEM) (4/56)
  • Infotainment control module (ICM) (3/281) when changing customer parameters.

STEERING COLUMN LOCK MODULE (SCL) (4/102) (DOES NOT APPLY TO USA/CDN MARKET FOR 2009-).

START CONTROL MODULE (SCU) (3/132)

  • Power supply from the central electronic module (CEM).
  • Switch at start button is connected to the central electronic module (CEM), the keyless vehicle module (KVM) and the engine control module (ECM).
Via serial communication (LIN):  Via serial communication (LIN): 
  • Central electronic module (CEM) for communication with the remote key.
  • Central electronic module (CEM) for communication with the remote key.
ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) (4/46)

  • Starter button from the Start control module (SCU).
  • Starter motor relay for activating the starter motor.

  • Serial number from the Brake control module (BCM).
  • Communication with the central electronic module (CEM) during start attempts.
  • Information about the engine status

BRAKE CONTROL MODULE (BCM) (4/16)

Input Signals Output Signals

  • Inquiry about the serial number from the engine control module (ECM) during start attempts.
  • Information about vehicle speed.
  • Serial number and P/N to the engine control module (ECM).
TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) (4/28)

  • Information about the position of the gear selector.
DRIVER INFORMATION MODULE (DIM) (5/1).

  • From Central electronic module (CEM) with information about what message shall be shown in display as well as if warning signal is to sound.
  • From the keyless vehicle module (KVM) with information that no key was found.
