Functions In The Audio Module (AUD)

The audio module (AUD) can run a number of different functions, but these functions can also be activated by other nodes. An example of these functions is lowering and increasing the volume. The signal comes from the infotainment control module (ICM), but it is the audio module (AUD) that actually changes the volume. The functions are described below.

NOTE:

Different versions of Audio module (AUD) have a different number of functions.

  1. Adjustable volume.

    Raises or lowers volume.

  2. Adjustable bass.

    Raises or lowers bass sound.

  3. Adjustable treble.

    Raises or lowers treble sound.

  4. Limiter.

The Limiter function used in the control module does not permit increase of the output if this results in reduced sound quality. In vehicles with double batteries the function limits the output when stopped.

  5. Mixing.

Mixing allows numerous different sound types to be mixed. In this case, the different sound types are foreground noise background noise. An example of this is where a CD is playing (background noise) and the reverse warning is activated (foreground noise). The reverse warning will be heard in the loudspeakers while the volume of the music drops at the same time

  6. Bass compensation.

The bass from the control module is compensated/modified depending on the volume and the speed of the car. If the vehicle's speed and volume change, the bass compensation also changes.

  7. Treble compensation.

The treble in the control module is compensated/modified depending on how the volume is changed. If the volume changes, the treble compensation also changes.

  8. Equalizer setting, sound compensation.

Different audio settings can be made from the audio module (AUD). This compensates for factors such as the location of the speakers and the layout of the vehicle interior.

  9. Dolby ProLogic II.

Surround decoder for playback of sound.

  10. Dolby digital.

Surround decoder for playback of multi-channel sound.

  11. Adjustable surround level.

Setting of volume for the different surround channels.

  12. Soundstage.

Optimizing of sound for driver, front and rear seat.

  13. Echofilter.

Prevents echoes in the handsfree speaker.

  14. Center channel volume.

Raises or lowers the center channel volume.

  15. Subwoofer volume.

Setting sound volume of subwoofer speakers.

There are two types of sound, foreground sound and background sound. The sounds which are foreground and background are listed below.
