The climate control module (CCM) controls the climate control system and the buttons in the dashboard environment panel.

The climate unit is available in different versions. The figure above shows:

ECC - Electronic Climate Control (1)
ETC - Electronic Temperature Control (2)
New design found on different vehicle models, from and incl. structure week 201020 (3).

ECC

The climate control system is fully automatic and has the option of manual settings.

ETC

The climate control system is semi-automatic where the temperature is automatically regulated but the fan speed and damper position are set manually.

The climate control module (CCM) communicates with components which are directly connected and also with other control modules and components via LIN and CAN communication.

The climate control module (CCM) communicates with the damper motors and seat heaters via two separate LIN buses. The number of components on the LIN buses varies, depending on the equipment level of the car and whether the car is left or right-hand drive.

The following components communicate on LIN bus 1:

the damper motor module (DMM), temperature left (ECC only)
the damper motor module (DMM), temperature (ETC only)
the damper motor module (DMM), air distribution
the seat heating module (SHM), left-hand front, alternatively ventilation left (only ECC)
seat heating module (SHM), left front (only ETC)
the seat heating module (SHM), left-hand rear
the damper motor module (DMM), recirculation
the switch, rear seat heaters.

The following components communicate on LIN bus 2:

damper motor module (DMM), defroster (only ECC)
the damper motor module (DMM), temperature right (ECC only)
the seat heating module (SHM), right front, alternatively ventilation right (only ECC)
seat heating module (SHM), right front (only ETC)
the seat heating module (SHM), right-hand rear
humidity sensor (only EEC)
interior rear-view mirror control module (IEC)

The control module checks activations and input and output signals via an integrated diagnostic system. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored in certain cases if the control module detects a fault.

Any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) are stored in the control module memory. The data can be read off using the diagnostic tool.

A simple check to determine that the climate control module (CCM) is powered and grounded is to activate one of the functions controlled by the buttons on the dashboard environment panel and to check that the LEDs come on or go out.
