System Overview: Signals

The table below summarizes the input signals to and output signals from the keyless vehicle module (KVM). The signal types are divided into directly connected signals, serial communication and controller area network (CAN) communication. The graphic below displays the same information with the Volvo component designations.

Directly connected:  Directly connected: 
  • Lock button on the handles on the side doors (3/273-276), for locking.
  • Unlocking switch in the external door handles (3/273-276), indicates that the door handle has been pulled out.
  • Unlocking contact breaker for the boot lid (10/3), indicates that the handle is pressed in.
  • Quick lock switch in each side door (6/36, 6/55-57), motor activation permitted.
  • Contact breaker at starter button in start control module (SCU) (3/132), indication that the starter button is depressed.
  • Central electronic module (CEM) (4/56), signal indicating that the brake pedal is pressed
  • Clutch switch (MAN) (3/271), indicates that the clutch pedal is pressed.
  • Internal antennas (16/134-135), for communication with a remote key in the passenger compartment.
  • Antenna in the luggage compartment (16/133), for communication with remote keys
  • External antennas in the door handle (3/275-276), for communication with remote keys.
  • External rear antenna (16/132), for communication with remote keys.
  • Lock unit with quick lock motor, front left (6/36), for opening the door.
  • Lock unit with quick lock motor, front right (6/55), for opening the door.
  • Lock unit with quick lock motor, rear left (6/57), for opening the door.
  • Lock unit with quick lock motor, rear right (6/56), for opening the door.
  • The lock unit with the quick lock motor in the boot lid (3/78), for opening the boot lid.
Via serial communication:  Via serial communication: 
  • Remote keyless entry (TRX) receiver (4/119), for receiving data from remote keys.
  • Remote keyless entry (TRX) receiver (4/119), wake-up signal.
  • Remote keyless entry (TRX) receiver (4/119), control command.
Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication:  Via Controller Area Network (CAN) communication: 
  • Central electronic module (CEM) (4/56)
  • Infotainment control module (ICM) (3/281) when changing customer parameters.
