Forward Facing Camera
The front facing camera is a sensor that is connected to the Forward Sensing Module (FSM). Information is sent from the camera to the Forward Sensing Module (FSM) in the form of an analogue video signal.
The camera is located at the upper edge on the inside of the windscreen, by the rear view mirror.
The forward facing camera is used to provide the control module with information about stationary and moving objects, as well as to identify and measure road lines.
To prevent condensation forming on the windscreen in front of the camera there is a heating element that is controlled via the control module.
When replacing forward-facing camera or Forward Sensing Module (FSM), the new unit must be calibrated using the diagnostics tool.
This must also take place when downloading software for control module in case fault code FSM-500154 is set.
The camera has limitations similar to the human eye, that is, it "sees" worse in the dark, heavy snowfall or rain and in thick fog. Under such conditions camera-dependent functions may be severely reduced or temporarily deactivated.
Even strong backlight, reflections from the road, snow or icy road, dirty road or unclear lane markings may reduce the function when the camera is used to read off the road as well as detect pedestrians and other vehicles. At very high temperatures the camera is temporarily turned off for approx. 15 minutes after engine start to protect the camera function.
If the display shows the message Windshield Sensors Covered, this means that the camera sensor is blocked and cannot detect pedestrians, vehicles, or lane markings in front of the car.
