Exhaust Damper (Certain Versions Only).
The purpose of the exhaust damper is to enhance the audio experience in specific operating conditions, e.g. when the vehicle is in Sport mode.
There are two dampers, one for each bank in the exhaust system. Each damper is controlled by an electric damper motor. The Engine Control Module (ECM) controls the position of the damper using a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal to the motors. The same signal goes to both the motors.
The dampers are permanently integrated in the silencers. Both damper motors are mounted above the dampers and can be replaced separately.
The Engine Control Module (ECM) can diagnose the exhaust dampers.
