Starter Motor

The starter motor on vehicles with automatic start/stop of engine has a greater effect than normal. The starter motor has electromagnetic field windings instead of permanent magnets. A starter motor with permanent magnets produces a speed of about 200-300 RPM while a starter motor with electromagnetic field windings produces an engine speed of about 500-600 RPM. A starter motor with electromagnetic field windings also does not have a maximum speed, but the speed continues to increase as long as it receives current.

If the driver manages to release the clutch pedal before the engine has started, the more powerful starter motor reduces the risk of unintentional stalling. The starter motor is dimensioned to handle 3-5 times more starts than a starter in a vehicle without the automatic start / stop of the engine.
