Connection And Communication

The Engine Control Module (ECM) is a:

CAN domain slave.
Private CAN domain master.
LIN master.

The Engine Control Module (ECM) is a slave on propulsion CAN.

It is also a master on a private CAN connected to the Transmission Control Module (TCM). The private CAN is used for the intercommunication between the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
