Remote Key [2018-2022]: Description
The remote key is used to remotely activate functions in the vehicle.
The remote key has buttons for activating the following functions:
- Locking via the central locking system.
- Unlocking via the central locking system.
- Unlocking the tailgate, unlocking and opening the tailgate (only vehicle ' s with power operated tailgate).
- Activate alarm functions.
The embedded transponder in the key is a communication circuit with a unique programmed identification which must be learned by the Central Electronic Module (CEM) in order to authenticate the key. Once the transponder has been programmed for one vehicle, it cannot be programmed for another. If a key is lost, a new one can be programmed for the vehicle.
The remote key can sense when its battery is starting to run out and a message will inform the driver in the combined instrument when the battery needs to be replaced. Reduced range of the remote key can also be an indication that the battery will need to be replaced.
The key has a retracted key blade which can be used in emergency situations to unlock the driver's door. This does not disarm alarm functions.
