EGR System: Description

The exhaust gas recirculation system helps to lower peak combustion temperatures and pressures in the combustion chambers, limiting the formation of Oxides of Nitrogen (NOx). A portion of the exhaust gases are drawn into the intake manifold under certain operating conditions. The exhaust gases mix with and dilute the incoming air/fuel mixture, resulting in lower combustion temperatures and pressures.
