Fuel Evaporation System: Description
This system prevents gasoline vapors from escaping into the atmosphere by collecting vapors from the fuel tank and carburetor float bowl, and storing them in a charcoal canister. See Figure .
Vacuum is applied to the charcoal canister when the engine is running and draws the vapors from the canister into the carburetor. The vapors become part of the air/fuel mixture, and are burned in the combustion chambers.
